"Gods at Work and Play" print by Tarmo Peters
Gods at Work and Play Print

Like the "Look in on Life" poster, this picture of the December 26, 2004 tsunami, was created in 2005 with less capable tools than are available today.  The camera was a 5-megapixel Olympus and the software was an earlier Corel Photo-Paint.  Still, some of the effects that were possible (like the color accents, the ocean waves, painting with stars, etc.) were quite exciting, at least for this amateur.

As to the theme of the picture, whatever your religious beliefs or non-beliefs, it could be imagined that the tragedy was simply another day for the "gods" that determine our collective fate.  Like the cliche about the banality of evil, there is no profundity here.  Poseidon or Neptune or whatever "god of the sea", had some "need" to stir up a little wave action.  The "witches" that feed on the psychic carnage zoomed in, Oz-like, from the east and west.  And the souls of the recently departed quickly found their way to the mind of that compassionate other "god" whose job it was to re-direct, re-build, re-create and so on.

For the living, a tragedy of unbelievable proportions.  For the "gods", just part of the daily grind, so to speak.
