Look in on Life Print
"Look in on Life" was an experiment and quite complicated to create back in 2005, with the tools I had available then. Despite having fiddled with digital images for a number of years prior to ’05, I was still a relative beginner. But while it lacks some of the polish that I aim for today, it was truly a joyful challenge. This fantasy is about being stuck in a place (a mindset or a workplace, for that matter) while Life (a good, hot time) is going on elsewhere. The stage upon which this takes place is simply a royalty-free stock photo that came with some software (CorelDraw, I think). This picture was only of the elevator lobby, into which I inserted myself (yes, that’s me behind the doors), the very alluring Our Lady of the Vintage Ashtray, as well as the text on the floor and the fire in front. The trick was to make sure that everything looked like it belonged, particularly with regard to reflections and shadows. "Trickery and fakery! Harrumph!" Yes, but who cares when it’s a fantasy. And I’m not necessarily saying it’s my fantasy but….
