The Wing Thing::Handcrafted Artisan Jewelry, Artistic Images and More
Tarmo's Images Banner This section of The Wing Thing is about artistic images.  Here at TWT, an artistic image is a nice picture that you can stare at for some extended length of time without getting bored.  It should complement your décor and make you think about the content.  That content can be comforting or even a little disturbing in some way.  But, according to the official Wing Thing style guide, it is not meant to assault the senses or sensibilities of the viewer.  It is created by whatever means necessary, from “pure” photography to manipulated photos to digital conversions of hand-drawn/painted art.

And you can buy a print, if you really want to (you know you do).

Prints are made with an Epson Pro 3800 fine art printer using their archival quality K3 inks, which means that years from now, people will find this print you bought and say something like “Wow, that’s how things looked in the olden days”.  Rest assured that at a minimum of 1440 dpi, you will be impressed by the quality of the reproduction.  You can get more information about paper types and sizes here.

The JPEGs on this site can't possibly show how fantastic the prints really look.  If you want to improve your online photo viewing experience, calibrating your monitor will help.  But until Internet Explorer supports colour management you may not see a true representation of our images.  And that’s why you should buy one.

Here’s one last thing to think about.

Advances in digital photography, inkjet printers and image software are changing the distance equation for viewing pictures.  Traditional forms of two-dimensional art (oil paintings, watercolours, etc.) were meant to be experienced from many feet away depending, obviously, on the size of the canvas or paper.

But new tools available to digital artists are now making it possible to create beauty in the up-close details.  While overall composition is still critical for the creation of a picture that is compelling from ten or twenty feet away, it is now possible for artistically interpreted small details to engage the viewer from a distance of one foot.  This is best experienced via the larger print sizes but still evident in an 8”x10”.  Some of the more recent pictures on this site (see higher page numbers) have started to explore this great opportunity.
